On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

Venturing and The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout ReserveYou became a Venturer because you wanted to get a peek beyond the horizon and find out more about yourself, because you wanted to write your own story instead of living in someone else's. In the heart of outdoor adventure country in West Virginia, the Boy Scouts of America are building a place where you can write your own story in your own words. At The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve you’ll embark on more adventures in one amazing place than most people experience in a lifetime.
The 10,600-acre Summit Bechtel Reserve (SBR) will become the permanent home for the National Jamboree. In addition, the site will serve as a high adventure base and national leadership center, providing opportunities for Scouts and Venturers beyond what is available in the BSA system today.
This visionary endeavor means that you will be able to tap into all the adventures the New River Gorge has to offer, such as:
The things you learn on each adventure at the Bechtel Summit — about the world, about your friends and about yourself — will give you confidence that will resonate long after you've left the New River Gorge. You will earn a backpack full of memories you'll remember forever and a toolbox full of skills you'll use for the rest of your life.
The Summit is poised to take Scouting and Venturing into the next century, helping young men and women to grow through adventure, leadership, friendship and self-discovery. We can't wait for you to join us.
Here's a video of Venturing to the Summit, Part 1 of a 7 part series featuring members of Venturing Crews 32 and 44 from North Carolina. They came to The Summit with work in mind (and some fun, too), and quickly set themselves to the tasks at hand: forest re-vegetation and trail reconstruction — and don’t forget the fishing, rafting, rock climbing, zip lines and rappelling.
