Scholarship - University of Evansville ScoutingRecipients of Scouting’s highest honors can have something extra to show for their hard work and accomplishment: a more affordable college education.
The University of Evansville has teamed up with America ’s Scouting organizations to create the UE Scouting Scholarship – a $56,000, four-year award for recipients of the Scouting’s highest honors. The award is available to Boy Scouts who have earned the Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout Award, Sea Scouts who have earned the Sea Scouting Quartermaster Award, or Venturers who have earned the Venturing Silver Award; and to Girl Scouts who have received the Girl Scouts of the USA Gold Award and American Heritage Girls who have earned the Stars & Stripes Award.
Candidates also must visit the UE campus and have a high school GPA of at least 3.5 and score 1530 or higher on the SAT or 23 or higher on the ACT.
“We’re extremely excited about this partnership with the Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts of the USA ,” said Keith Gehlhausen, Central Region Venturing Advisor and Director of Human Resources at UE. “The young men and women who earn these organizations’ highest honors become the type of college students who succeed at the University of Evansville – they already have demonstrated the values, work ethic, and commitment to learning that embody the University of Evansville ’s mission.” The $56,000 scholarship breaks down to $14,000 each year. Over the last two years, 85 Scouts have received the UE Scouting Scholarship, or a higher award, for a total scholarship commitment of almost $5,000,000.
In addition to rewarding Scouts and Venturers with a scholarship, UE also sponsors Venturing Crew 365 - a very active campus outdoor club. With over 70 members, it is the largest Venturing crew within Buffalo Trace Council. Activities have included backpacking in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, hiking in Hoosier National Forest and Shawnee National Forest, rock climbing at the Red River Gorge and Vertical eXcape climbing gym, snow skiing at Paoli Peaks, canoeing on the Blue River, Current River, and Bluegrass Fish & Wildlife Area, whitewater rafting on the Ocoee River, and caving at Mammoth Cave National Park and Marengo Cave National Landmark.
