The Hammock

The Hammock Position 1: What is all the fuss about?

While at camp, one of the members of your crew set up a hammock near his tent. He lays in it sometimes during the day, and he sleeps in it at night when it isnít too cold. One day, he and a female member of the crew spend part of the morning laying in it together, head to feet, just talking. The crew advisor talks with them later, mentioning that some of the other adults on the campsite werenít sure what they were doing was appropriate. Your crew By-Laws do include a no PDA rule. The next day another couple, neither one from your crew, spent several hours in the hammock the same way. Without consulting the crew president, or anyone else, your advisor posted a sign above the hammock stating that the maximum capacity was 1. After that, no one shared the hammock for the rest of the week. You know that neither couple was doing anything wrong, and you think the advisor was wrong in making a rule to prohibit friends just talking. You want the crew president to talk to the advisor to take back the new rule.

Position 2: Things are out of control.

Without consulting the crew president, or anyone else, your advisor posted a sign above the hammock stating that the maximum capacity was 1. After that, no one shared the hammock for the rest of the week. You think that it was wrong for the first couple to be in the hammock together, and you think the advisor should have been more forceful in preventing the problem. You want the hammock taken down so there isnít the temptation in camp for more inappropriate behavior.
